The personalized label for Lyon's first urban wines

Personalized labels for wines from Chai Saint Olive

The wine label is one of the key elements of the bottle. So why not opt for a personalized label?
What did Franck and Grégoire Saint Olive, founders of Chai Saint Olive, hope to achieve by personalizing the label of their urban wines? What is the story behind this label? Let's find out.

What is the history of the personalized label?

The origin of the label for Lyon's first urban wine lies in the city of the Fenottes and the Gones. Franck and Grégoire, native Lyonnais, wanted a personalized label with strong symbols of their city, but also representative of their product, wine.

This label results in a sober and elegant combination of the vineyard plots – the origin of the wines, the districts of Lyon – 9 in total, the river and the city's stream.
The first urban vintage, released in early April 2021, is called vintage 480 , the second, available since early September 2021, is called vintage 812 .

What do Cuvée 480 and Cuvée 812 mean?

The names of these urban wines from Lyon are of course linked to the city, and more specifically to its waterways.

Franck & Grégoire wanted to link the winemaking and aging processes of their urban wines to two strong elements that are representative of Lyon. This naturally led them to the Rhône and Saône rivers.

480 is the length of the Saône. The link between the length of the Saône and the first urban vintage – the 480 vintage – corresponds to the vinification and aging time of the wine in stainless steel tanks for approximately 6 months, which is shorter than for the second urban vintage – the 812 vintage.

812 therefore corresponds to the length of the Rhône, which is the urban cuvée vinified and aged in oak barrels for 10 months.

The personalized label for Lyon's first urban wines brings together key images of Lyon and the wine's origin. Beyond the names of the wines printed on the label, the Rhône and Saône rivers are featured in selective varnishing to reinforce the name of each vintage.

Thanks to a distinctive color code linked to the graphic charter of Chai Saint Olive, urban wines
Single-varietal products carry a personalized label according to the color of the grape variety.
So, olive green for Chardonnay, dark green for Viognier, terracotta for Gamay and brown for Syrah.

The personalized labels were created by the illustrator Enook.

Can you create your own personalized label?

Franck & Grégoire are keen to share their passion for wine with city dwellers, so they wanted label personalization to be possible on their wine bottles, as well as personalization of their wines through the wine blending workshops they offer.

A quintessential symbol of French culture, wine makes a perfect gift for any occasion, private or professional, at any time of year. Chai Saint Olive offers gift boxes in wood or cardboard, featuring a selection of its four grape varieties and its 480 and 812 urban wines .
